NCERT Chapter Summary: How the Dog Found Himself a New Master

Earlier dogs used to be their own master, but one day a dog decided to become the servant of one, who was the strongest on the Earth. He was sick and was tired of moving here and there. He was frightened of those, who were stronger than him.

The Dog Met a Big Wolf

When the dog began his search to find a master, he met a big wolf, who was strong and fierce. The dog asked the wolf if he will become his master. The wolf accepted his offer. They walked together in the forest. The wolf moved suddenly off the path and went deep inside the forest. The dog asked him the reason behind his disappearance. The wolf said there was a bear and he might eat both of them.

The Dog Decided to Serve the Bear

The bear was stronger than the wolf, so the dog decided to take up his service. The bear agreed to his proposal. The dog and the bear went to find a herd of cows. They wanted to eat a cow, but were stopped by a terrible noise. The cows were running. The bear also started running after he saw something. The dog came to know that the bear was afraid of a lion
therefore, he started running. The dog decided to serve the lion as he is stronger than the bear.

The dog asked the lion if he could serve him. The lion agreed and they started living together. The dog was happy to be with the lion as he was the strongest beast in the forest and no one could dare touch the dog.

The Dog Changed his Master Again

One day, the dog and the lion were walking together. All of sudden, the lion stopped and began to back away quietly. He was afraid of something. The dog asked him the reason behind his fear. The lion said he could smell the presence of a man and they should run away to avoid any kind of trouble. The dog understood that the man is the strongest creature on the Earth and decided to leave the lion and change his master again.

The dog joined at man and served him faithfully. Till today the dog is man’s most loyal servant.
