Rights are reasonable claims of persons recognised by society and sanctioned by law. Rights are necessary for the very sustenance of a democracy.
In India, like most other democracies in the world, these rights are mentioned in the Constitution. The Constitution provides for six Fundamental Rights.
- Right to Equality
- Right to Freedom
- Right against Exploitation
- Right to Freedom of Religion
- Cultural and Educational Rights
- Right to Constitutional Remedies
The Supreme Court and High Courts have the power to issue directions, orders or writs for the enforcement of the Fundamental Rights.
